Tuesday Tunes (18)

Over the weekend I went to one of the most entertaining concerts I have ever been to. Weird Al Yankovich!
I've seriously never had so much fun at a concert. I was laughing to the point of crying from the first second to the very last encore. Al puts on an awesome show...he's hilarious, he's a wonderful performer, and he's just so much fun. There were tons of songs, tons of costume changes, and tons of crazy videos.

A special highlight was when they showed this clip from Al's 1989 movie UHF. My brother and I have seen this movie so many times...and as I found out when this clip came on, I haven't lost my ability to quote from it word-for-word. Does anyone else love this stupid movie as much as I do?

There were so many awesome songs...from old favorites to parodies of new hits. I think the show was perfect for people my age, since I was familiar with both the old and the new.

This song was one of my favorites, though. During this song, Al went out into the crowd and started serenading the ladies. It was awesome. Check out this song if you want a good laugh.

I never thought I would end up at a Weird Al show, but I'm so glad I did. It was an awesome way to spend a Saturday night. If you ever have a chance to see Al in concert, go for it. He puts on a killer show.

I didn't get this shirt at the show, and now I'm totally regretting it. I think I'm going to need to order it.
I need that in my life, right? It's so me.

  1. You know, I haven't heard a Weird Al song in forEVER. But I bet I would have been cracking up right beside you at that concert. His songs are HI-larious. Also? I love that sweatshirt. A lot.

  2. Who knew?? I used to have a friend who was obsessed with his music. It used to crack me up, but I'd never have seen myself at a concert. Perhaps if the opportunity comes up to go to one, I'll do it. Sounds like you had a blast!

  3. Highlights of his new album:
    1. "TMZ," a parody of Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me"
    2. "Craigslist," in the style of the Doors (with their keyboard player!)
    3. "Party in the CIA" - you can guess what that's a parody of
    4. My personal favorite: "Stop Forwarding That Crap to Me," in the style of Jim Steinman

Jessica: Did he do "Stop Forwarding" at the show?

  4. Random fact: My mother went to high school with Weird Al. He streaked across the football field at graduation and no one thought he'd ever amount to anything.

  5. I can't believe that if Weird Al had streaked at his high school graduation, the story wouldn't have surfaced before now. Also, I can't believe that no one thought he'd ever amount to anything-- he was graduating from high school at age 16 as the Valedictorian! And going off to college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I am sure that plenty of people expected Alfred Yankovic to have a successful career. I am also sure that no one, not even Alfred, expected him to have a successful career as Weird Al.

No, he didn't do "Stop Forwarding..." at the show, but he did do TMZ and Party in the CIA (Al and the band looked very sharp in their black suits and sunglasses)

  6. I think I told you this on twitter, but he's probably the most famous alum from my college, like OE mentioned above. He recorded his song My Bologna in our journalism department bathroom.

I saw him live once, and like you said, it was such a great show. So much fun!

I grew up a big fan, thanks to my dad. And I love UHF. Wheel...Of.....Fish! "You stupid! You so stupid!"

  7. So... I totally have a ridiculous amount of Weird Al on my Ipod. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
