Tuesday Tunes: 90s Playlist

This weekend I was looking for a little inspiration, so I made a playlist of 90s hits on Spotify.

Check out my 90s playlist

I was a kid in the 80s, but I was a teenager in the 90s, so it's the 90s music I really relate with the most. I didn't realize how much listening to music from my teens would help me tap into my inner teen when I'm writing! I turned on this playlist the other night and all of a sudden the ideas were flying and I was making more progress than I had in weeks. It was amazing.

And, man, nothing makes me happier than listening to these songs that I loved so much. I'm just smiling every time a new track comes on.

For those of you who don't have Spotify and can't see my playlist, here are a few of my favorites:

I remember singing this song with my friends in the car on the way to a dance team competition. Over and over and over.

I was the biggest Counting Crows fangirl. My favorite song on August and Everything After was Anna Begins, but this song is so 90s to me.

The album that this song comes from? One of my very favorite albums OF ALL TIME. Harvey Danger rocked so hard, and if you haven't listened to Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone? you are missing out on life.

Ok, I could really post a video of every single song on that playlist, so I'll cut myself off before I get annoying.

I know it makes me old to say I miss the 90s, but...oh GOD I miss the 90s!

What are your favorite 90s songs?

  1. Oh, this list brought back so many memories (I was a child of the 80's, teenager of the 90's too) I was all about Nirvana, U2, and Bush in those days. I was devastated about Kurt Cobain.

  2. I was born in '96 so I don't remember LOL but my dad plays 90's music all the time!

  3. I love all these songs. I am right there with you. I also like Green Day's Hope You Had The Time of Your Life. Great post!

  4. I can't see your list since I don't have Spotify, but I love all the songs you posted on here!

  5. Doo doo doo...do-do do-do...Love that song! I was a teen in the late 90s so these songs bring me back to that time too. :)

  6. I pretty much lived for Third Eye Blind in the 90s. :)

  7. OMG, these brought back some memories-thanks! Third Eye Blind and Better than Ezra are classic 90s staples, lol Good stuff.

  8. Love those songs! To confirm I was a kid of the 90s:

    1. I watched Counting Crows perform Round Here on SNL in 1993 when Sara Gilbert hosted. It was the first time my parents let me stay up to watch.
    2. I own Now 2! Which has Flagpole Sitta on it. And I remember hearing it in Disturbing Behavior, starring a pre-Tom Katie Holmes.
    3. I own several Better than Ezra albums and have seen them in concert 3 times.
    4. I still listen to that 3EB album sometimes. Memories...

  9. I love the 90s and your playlist. I tend to be fond of 90s hip hop when I'm feeling nostalgic or in need of some teenagery inspiration...probably because I was so totally gangsta back then.

  10. I don't have Spotify, but if you didn't put at least one BNL song on that list, I'm not sure I can be your friend anymore. I mean, come on. It's the 90s! BNL was totally commercially popular then. Heh.

BUT I will say I love the idea of just listening to music that you loved when you were a teenager! I match songs to scenes and characters often, but never thought of just getting in touch with my inner teenager. You're so smart :)

  11. I must be a few years older than you, because while I thought I knew 90's music, much of these came out after I left high school (meaning, they're not in my major repertoire.) I love going back and listening to songs from the late 80s and early nineties though, it totally takes me back!

  12. I love Flagpole Sitta. I remember it in Disturbing Behavior too.
I love BNL (still do) so One Week was a fav.
I was a bit younger in the 90s so a lot of my favorites at the time were boy bands. Now I wonder wth I was thinking. lol

  13. LOVE Counting Crows! One of my favorite Pandora stations would be "Summer hits of the 90s." Good stuff.
