NaNoWriMo Update

Wow, you guys. NaNoWriMo is kicking my butt. I've been looking forward to writing this story for a year now, but now that I am sitting down to do it, I'm really struggling. Every single word takes a colossal amount of effort. UGH. I'm irritated with myself.

I thought I would share my stats with you guys, so you can see how I'm doing. Here's the screenshot of my stats page from yesterday:
As you can see, I'm behind schedule. But I'm not TOO behind. I just have to do an extra 400 words over the average daily word count to stay on schedule. And I have an entire week off for Thanksgiving with no actual plans. So while I am behind, I still have plenty of time to catch up. I got a lot done yesterday, so as long as I can have those days with a big word count I should be okay.

I'm just finding that I only want to write the flirty scenes with the cute boy. This is how I end up with no plot. Oh well.

So, it's been a really rough start, but I'm hanging in there and trying to stay positive. How are you doing with your November writing, NaNoWriMo or otherwise?

  2. I starred out with a bang ad it tapered off a bit. Its hard to find the perfect quiet place for me to be with my characters.

  3. I'm not NaNoing this year, so let me know if you want a cheerleader! I have a friend who I exchange writing-goals emails with/check ins and if you're interested in something similar it might help motivate :D

  8. NaNo's going well! WriteorDie.com has helped me get in 1K (bad) words on paper (or word doc) in about a half hour, so that's how I've been able to get about 17K in so far. But to be honest, of the 17K, I probably only like about 2K of those words. Oh well; it's just a first draft. :)

  9. Mine is really up-and-down, and it's only Day 7. :/ I am completely irritated with myself and I can't figure out what the hang up is. Oh well, onward and upward and all that.

  10. You can do it, Jessica! I found that when I got a little stuck last year, I would skip a bit forward and write a dramatic scene that was much easier to write and that I knew I'd need anyway. Then the words came more fluidly and when I returned to the hard part, I just wrote "forward" toward the finished scene. It helped me bridge the two scenes and forward the plot. Good luck. You can do it! Just keep writing.

  14. You'll get there, lady! I have full confidence in you! (And you know what? Even if you don't "win" NaNo, you're still getting a kickass start on a new manuscript. You win no matter what!)
