Road Trip Wednesday: Best Book of November

It's time for another Road Trip Wednesday, a blog carnival hosted by the lovely ladies of YA Highway.
This week's question:

What is the best book you've read in November?

Thanks to NaNoWriMo, I didn't read much in November. (This has been a trend this year, sadly, but I have a PLAN to bust through my shelf in December.) But the best book I read was actually a bit of a surprise to me.

I knew I loved Lauren Oliver's writing, but I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy Liesl & Po, as it's more of a children's fantasy story...pretty out of my comfort zone. But oh man, this book was just so delightful. I absolutely adored grouchy, snippy ghost Po and its sweet little ghost pet Bundle. Oh, and little Will, such a cute little disaster. These characters were all so enchanting and reading this book was just so much fun. I think I smiled through the whole thing.

I wish I had a younger kid in my life to read this book aloud to or with, because that's all I could think of while reading this..that it would be the perfect bedtime story! I can picture being all snuggled up in bed, admiring the gorgeous illustrations, and doing fun voices for all of the characters. Any of you with younger ones, this would be such a great Christmas gift for the young reader in your life, and a great book to share with a loved one.

What's the best book you read this month?

  5. This one looks like all kinds of fun, and after reading BEFORE I FALL, I completely trust Lauren Oliver's storytelling skills. I'll make a mental note to read it to my girlie when she's a little older. :)

  6. I'm looking forward to reading Liesl & Po! The best book I read this past month was Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles--she tells a great love story!

  7. Okay, you SOLD me. I love Lauren Oliver, but wasn't going to pick it up because it's MG and I wasn't especially wowed by the premise, but my daughter liked Delirium and I would love to read this to my son. Hmmm. Me thinks Santa is going to be bringing lots of books this year.
