Friday Five (25)

1. Tonight I am celebrating Christmas with my very favorite tradition. Every Dec 23rd I invite some friends over and we watch Love Actually (the best Christmas movie ever) and drink rum cider and eat yummy treats.

We've all seen the movie so many times that we just end up reciting all of our favorite parts right along with it...and this gets more obnoxious the more rum cider we have. I don't even know how many years it's been now...six? Seven? Ah well, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it's an awesome tradition and my favorite thing about the holidays.

2. We had a pretty big anniversary this week...it's been one year since Gunner came to us! We picked him up the Sunday after my winter break started last year (Dec 19th, 2010), so this past Sunday was one year since he has been in our lives!

The first pic of him I posted on facebook...he came with a very unfortunate haircut

My life has been so much better with him in it. He is just the sweetest, happiest, smartest little dog and he brings me so much joy every single day.

A more recent pic...visiting the huge Christmas tree at the outdoor mall

Waiting to go on a walk

I can't wait for many more years with this loving little guy!

3. I'm happy to report that I've finally been catching up on my reading. I've been pretty much blowing off all of my obligations to just sit around with my nose in a book, and it's been awesome. I want to get as many of my 2011 releases read as I can, so I can have some well-rounded choices for the Class of 2011: YA Superlatives Blogfest next week. I'm hoping to end the year with 55 books read...I think I can make it happen. But right now I just need one more to hit 50, which is a respectable number. (I hope you guys are planning on participating!)

4. Santa heard my cry and brought me a membership to the schmancy new gym down the street. (He also heard my other cry and brought me noise canceling headphones. YAY SANTA!) They do have yoga, and they also have weights and cardio machines and a full schedule of awesome classes. I have been checking out some of the cardio dance classes, which have been so much fun! I used to dance (kinda) and was even paid for my dancing (not like that) back in the day...which I guess means that I danced professionally once upon a time. (At Disneyland...it was so much fun!) But OH MY GOODNESS if you guys could see me in these classes, I swear, it's like I have never danced a day in my life. I don't know where my coordination went, but I promise you that no one would be paying me for any kind of dancing these days. But at least I'm burning calories and having a good time. That's all that matters, right?

5. Here are some festive treats to get you in the holiday spirit!

The Muppets performing Carol of the Bells

Some adorable baby goats jumping around to Christmas music

And this one is really special...my ridiculously talented friend Kelsey recorded an EP of Christmas tunes with her equally talented husband Daron. Their gorgeous folky tunes are available free to download here: Wedding Day Rain.

I haven't been able to stop listening to their songs!

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends! xoxo

  5. Happy adoption-versary Gunner!!

Would you believe I've never actually seen Love Actually?

I think fitness classes make people lose any and all dancing skills they ever had. I feel like I have 2 left feet at times & I've danced before too! (also not like that lol)
