Having A Weekend

I had a fun weekend. I didn't do anything on my To Do list, but I had a pretty amazing time.

Would you like to hear about it?

Friday night I went out to dinner at my favorite restaurant with some of my favorite friends. There was much wine and much laughter...the best kind of night. Later, we hit up the photo booth, like we do.

I'm totally that girl who is never without her phone

Everyone needs nights like these, especially after a long week like last week.*

Saturday afternoon I met up with some friends and watched The Muppets.

There aren't really words to express my love for Jason Segel, and I grew up with the Muppets and absolutely adore them and their humor and everything they stand for. I knew I would enjoy this movie, but I didn't really expect how HAPPY it would make me. I had a grin on my face the entire time.

The best thing was that our theater was empty except for our little group of four. A whole theater to ourselves! I loved it. That's the way to see a movie.

My boyfriend Jason Segel didn't let me down. In fact, I love him even more after that movie, which I didn't think was possible. (My friend Jenny said she didn't see how he could go from full frontal and simulated oral in movies to doing The Muppets, and I said that's exactly what makes him my dream man.)

Saturday night I went out with the husband and my wbff** Erin to the husband's friend's girlfriend's birthday celebration. We ended up at this place I used to hang out all the time when I was in my early 20s. Man, I felt OLD hanging out there. I had a fantastic time people watching, though, and chatting with Erin, of course, because she is one of my favorite people to hang out with.

Sunday I went to see one of my cutie pie students in a production of Phantom of the Opera, where he was playing Raoul. This was a high school production, but it was honestly Broadway quality. I was blown away by the money and care put into the staging and the unbelievable talent of the cast. If you had told me it was a professional production, I wouldn't have doubted it for a second.

The funny thing is that I had no idea my student sang. I mentioned awhile ago that one of my kids put together an amazing video for the school about me doing NaNoWriMo...this was him. So I knew he had this talent for video production, but he mentions all casually that's he's in a play and I have to drag it out of him that he has a major role in a huge musical put on by a nationally recognized teen theater program.

There was a lot of frustration involved in my trip to and from his show, but I am so glad I went. He was amazing, and I love seeing my students shine like that.***

So I had this really great weekend full of friends and fun and proud and happy moments. I didn't get my reading done or my critiquing or even my grading or laundry. But it's important to go out and live life every now and then, right?

*One week of work to go, then I have THREE weeks off! WOOT!

**wbff = work bff

***In addition to his AMAZING voice and stellar talent at putting together amazing videos, this is also super smart, completely responsible in class, and just NICE NICE NICE. Kids like him are the reason I love doing what I do.

  3. Can't believe I haven't seen that movie yet. And it's the best reviewed film of the year so far, too. Soon. Very soon. :)

  6. Yes!! I have to remember to go out and "live" every now and then. With my weekdays being so busy with work, I always think the weekends are when I'm supposed to read or write or do something productive. It's okay to just hang with your friends and chill every now and then, though. :)
