YAY BLOGGER!

Did you see? Did you notice? Blogger FINALLY added threaded comments! See?

HOORAY BLOGGER! I have been waiting for this for so long.

But...now I'm torn. I have always replied to my comments via email as long as you had an email address associated with your profile. (If you never get a comment reply from me via email it's because you don't have your email in your Blogger profile...or because I talk to you outside of the blog.) Now I can reply right here, but...will you guys actually get/see the replies? Do people actually subscribe via email to get their reply emailed to them? Will the replies I leave on comment thread actually get to you?

Am I thinking about this too much? Do you even care?

I've been so anxious for Blogger to get threaded comments, and now that it's here I'm wringing my hands over it.

What are your thoughts on threaded comments and comment replies?

  1. I had no idea this was happening, but I will probably still reply by email, unless that person does not have their account associated. The biggest bonus I see is one reader responding to another reader's comment. That is awesome.

    1. Yeah, it is nice that conversations can now happen in the comments. I think it will take some time for me to see how to handle this.

  2. That's so awesome. I'm going to try it out and see what people think.

In the mean time, I'll probably reply on the blog and by e-mail, as I've been doing since the beginning of the year. Thanks for the heads-up. :-)

  5. Thank you for alerting me to this! It excites me too (I've been jealous of those wordpress-ers). But to be honest, I never go back to a blog to see if someone responded to my comment. And I don't subscribe to them.

    1. I never do either, but now that Blogger has this, I might get in the habit of subscribing.

  6. Ahhhhh! I didn't know this! Thanks for letting us know.

  7. I didn't even realize this! But I'm going to stick with responding through email. Doing it that way is more efficient for me right now.

    1. It's efficient for me, too, because I can do it quickly at work. I wish Blogger wasn't blocked for me. But this will be fun to play around with!

  8. I'm torn! I've wanted threaded comments, but at the same time I like my system of responding in the reg comments, or via email, or on Twitter etc.

    1. Yeah, I really like emailing my reply. I wish I could email and have it show up here as well.

  9. OMG! This is so exciting! This function is on other blog services and now Blogger have it, I'm glad.

I've never emailed. I just find it a bit weird, like a stalker.

    1. Catching up to the rest of the world! Yay!

  10. Cool. It's about time blogger figured out how to nest comments. :D. I use the free commenting system Intense Debate for this. You get an email when a comment is left on your blog. When you reply to the email your response is nested as a reply under the comment. I Just cc the commenter on the reply so it posts to my blog as a nested comment and emails my response to the commenter in one step. Best of both worlds, really. I love it!

    1. I was JUST about to install that before this happened.

  11. I read your tweet about this last night but was too confused. I was trying to figure out of threaded comments on Twitter was something new... clearly, I need to pay more attention!

I'm not sure how this changes anything for me, as both a blogger and a commenter. I guess I'll need to watch for a few days and see what works. But I usually have to track back to the blog to see if the author replied to my comment, which we all know is time consuming.

    1. You can always click the Subscribe by email link when you comment and it will email you if someone replies. I just wish that it did that automatically.

  12. Nice! Reply to this and I'll see if I get an email notification.

  13. I was so confused yesterday. In the first half of the day I was replying to my comments in the comment section and then the other half of the day there was a reply button there. I was like am I missing something?

    I'm excited.

  14. FINALLY. I hated the old system because it seemed like 99% of people didn't put their email address in their google account, so I could never reply.

    1. I KNOW. I get so many comments with no email! And half the time I don't realize until I've typed out a reply. Bah.

  15. I usually will only reply on my blog to a comment and not email. Now I feel like a total heel if someone felt like I ignored their comment because I didn't email directly.

    1. Don't feel like a heel...everyone has different ways of doing things. It will be fun trying to figure all of this out.

  16. Ahhhhh, I got so tired of waiting for this feature that I got DISQUS so I could have the nested comments. I think I'm going to stick with it. I like it. Plus, I've already gone to all the trouble of installing the widget on my blog and I don't want to lose those comments. But I'm glad Blogger finally did it. :)

    1. Ha! I JUST switched to Disqus like Bailey - literally 2 days ago for my blogaversary overhaul. Yeah, I too am gonna stick with it. It seems easier for people to get my reply.

  17. Threaded comments? YESSSSS. (I seem to be saying YESSSSS a lot today.)

I usually email directly, though, just in case the person doesn't check back on my blog, or whatever. Unless there is no email, in which case I reply on my blog.

  18. I'm mostly excited because my co-teacher and I are getting our students blogging, and we've been using Blogger because our school uses Google Apps for Education so it was just easier. This will make it soooooo much easier to get my students talking to each other in comments.
