Anthems

Wednesday: May I ask you a question?

Guess what, you guys...it's another music post. I told you...I'm obsessed.

I have a playlist going of songs that seem like they were written just for the story I'm writing. (And, in a way, some of them actually were. Hello, cryptic clue to my current project.) But there is one song I was introduced to from the lovely Anne Riley that as soon as I heard it was like BAM. This song is EXACTLY my characters and their situation. And every time I listen to it, I swear I hear their voices in my ear.

UUF. What a gorgeous song. And such perfect inspiration for me.

What song is the anthem of your current WIP?

Or, if you aren't a writer or writing something right now, what song is the anthem of your life right now?

  1. Ooh, that is a gorgeous tune. Thank you for sharing. :)

This one isn't an anthem for any of my mss, but this song by Brandi Carlile kills me (and I've had it on repeat lately): http://grooveshark.com/s/That+Wasn+t+Me/4B7qjp?src=5

  2. I love this. And I cheated on my blog post: I answered this question on my own blog! I didn't realize until recently how much I depend on music now to help me get into the writing groove.

  3. That song is beautiful.

My writing playlists tend to be about 30 to 40 songs long, because I can never make up my mind. At the moment, Carly Rae Jepson's Call Me Maybe is speaking to me. Every time I play it, I can see my story playing out, despite the fact that the song has nothing to do with my current WIP.

  4. I'm still waiting to find the perfect song. In general, I've been listening to a lot of country music while working on my WIP. If I had to pick a song, it would be "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?" by Thompson Square. It doesn't really fit my story, except for that line, but I like it.

  8. Mine is Good Charlotte's Little Things.

A lot of the songs for the novel I'm working on is pop-punk and all the lyrics are just perfect.

    1. Pop-punk is so much fun! At least you don't fall asleep like me with my weepy emo music. Haha.

  9. Love that!

My story's "theme song" is Flowers for a Ghost, by Thriving Ivory. Actually, any of their songs are perfect, but it's almost as if that one was written for the story.

  10. I freaking love that song! It's just so perfect.

My anthem is Ray LaMontagne's Let it Be Me as the lyrics so perfectly express what I want my MS to say.

  11. One of my WIPs is a contemporary historical set from 1979-84, so it goes without saying that the playlist has lots of Eighties music.

  15. The Cave by Mumford and Sons is the anthem for the big climax of my WIP. When I listen to it, it makes me want to keep going until I finally get to that point in my revisions.

  16. Sappy Kap from Heartbreak City would always lean on "Cry" by Godley & Creme: "You don't know how to play the game and you cheat and you lie, you don't even know how to say goodbye...you make me want to cry"

Feels so good to hurt so bad. LOL
