It's Jess A-Z

Tuesday: May I tell you something about myself?

I've seen this little survey out and about in the blogosphere, so I thought it would be a fun little thing for Tuesday.

A is for age: Thirty*something* aka Thirty*wonderful*

B is for breakfast today: Whole Grain Peanut Butter Cheerios. SO GOOD.
C is for currently craving: I am pretty much always craving a Diet Dr. Pepper Big Gulp. The only time I'm not craving one is when I am drinking one.

D is for dinner tonight: Leftover crock pot beef stew from last night. It was so yummy!

E is for favorite type of exercise: OMG you guys, I hate working out. Dancing or yoga are the things I hate the least.

F is for an irrational fear: The dark. Who knows what could be lurking in there! The possibilities (in my head) are endless!

G is for gross food: I don't like fish. The texture and fishy smell/taste gross me out.

H is for hometown: Riverside, CA! Home of...not much

I is for something important:

J is for current favorite jam: Seriously, I can't stop listening to Lissie's cover of Kid Cudi's Pursuit of Happiness.

I've been obsessed since I saw her do this live at Coachella a few weeks ago. So awesome.

K is for kids: I have 200+ kids for 10 months a year. That's enough for me right now.

L is for current location: About to go spend some quality time with those kids of mine!

M is for the most recent way you spent money: $50 to fill up my tiny Corolla with gas. *sobs*

N is for something you need: A time turner

O is for occupation: High school English teacher...pretty much the best job ever

P is for pet peeve: Know-it-alls

Q is for a quote: "Don't be a writer, be writing." - William Faulkner (I think) (see...I'm not a know-it-all)

Also the best quote ever from a book: "I read more books than I should and I'm decidedly crap at sex and doing my taxes. Nice to meet you." - From I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak

R is for random fact about you: I finished the LA Marathon in 2008. This is probably surprising since I already told you how much I hate any form of exercise.

S is for favorite healthy snack: Apples

T is for favorite treat: Nutella (it makes the apples even yummier!)

U is for something that makes you unique: I'm six feet tall, which pretty much makes me a sasquatch.

V is for favorite vegetable: Asparagus

W is for today’s workout: Probably a quick treadmill/elliptical session before I head off to the Jessi Kirby / Morgan Mattson / Jenny Han signing tonight!

X is for X-rays you’ve had: Lots on my teeth. And my spine...I have scoliosis. (I guess that's a random fact, too.)

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: Not dying at my first Body Pump class at the gym. Teaching The Great Gatsby to my 10th graders...I LOVE talking about that book with them!

ZOMG I CAN'T WAIT!

Z is for your time zone: Pacific. Westsiiiiiiide.

  2. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorites!!! I usually read it every year while my juniors are reading it in their English classes!

Yay! I love getting to know more about Jessica! And I LOVE that you still love your job. I was that way for so long - twenty years has jaded me, but I still enjoy my students. :) Oh, and beyond jealous of all your book signings! Have fun!!!

    1. There's a lot to be annoyed with at my job, but I really can't beat the fact that I laugh every single day.

  5. OMG I hate fish (which is shocking, since I live in Salmon Central, but whatever). The only time I don't hate fish is when it's deep fried, because by that point, it's not even fish anymore.

I referred to "my kids" during spring break and my dad was like, "That was weird. Please don't say that again." SORRY, DAD.

    1. Haha...I know, I say "my kids" and people get SO CONFUSED.

  6. Sure, why not? I will comply with your "R" for Random Fact About Me: My band Outburst and I once shared a bill & a stage in Connecticut with a hardcore band from California called Inside Out. A few years later, their singer went on to be better known as Zack De La Rocha, frontman for Rage Against The Machine.

  8. One woman's sasquatch is another woman's bombshell. True story.

PS- If you ever get a Time Turner, I call dibs on borrowing on it!

  9. I'm scared of the dark too!

    Ew Dr Pepper is gross!

I'm glad you love teaching! Too many teachers in the US and UK hate teaching.

  10. I've been seeing this survey around. I think I might have to use it next week.

I love that Zusak quote! That was a great book. And The Great Gatsby? Definitely one of my favorites, too!

  11. Love the Zusak quote!

I am really craving Nutella now.

  12. Dude. I LOVE body pump! I mean, it kicks my freaking ass, but still.

Also? I'm oddly craving both asparagus and Nutella right now. Obviously not at the same time.

(Being six feet tall doesn't make you a sasquatch. It makes you super model tall and just adds to how gorgeous you are!) (Silly girl.)

    1. Yeah, body pump totally kicked my butt. But I really did enjoy it. I'm looking forward to going back!

  13. A Time Turner... YES. And I have no love for you since you've introduced me to Peanut Butter Cheerios... Sounds like an obsession waiting to happen!

    1. Oh man, I can't get enough of those Peanut Butter Cheerios. They are the best! My life will never be the same!

  14. Whoa...peanut butter Cheerios? I had no idea such magic existed! Must. Buy. Today.
And I didn't know you disliked fish! Now I feel bad for making you salmon last time you came over. Then again, you appeared to eat it...were you just slipping it to the dog/cat/tortoise? #turtlepower

    1. That salmon was actually really good! I was jus going to slip it under the table to Curry, but I actually gobbled it all up!

  15. I got a time turner for Christmas!!!

  16. Time out--you ran a marathon?! Geesh, you're amazing!

I refuse to see you as a sasquatch since that would then apply to me. I prefer "vertically gifted." :)

    1. "Ran" is a generous term. There was a lot of walking involved. But I finished, and that is all that matters! :-)

  17. Hey, you are NOT a sasquatch. I'd give anything to be taller with some killer long legs. Sigh.

Nutella is yummy, but I really love dulce de leche on toast or apples or anything pretty much. Once I made a cake and used it as filling and frosting. Everyone else made faces because it was so rich and sweet and I ate 3 pieces.

I've got to get me some peanut butter cheerios. That's awesome. Nice to get to know you!
