European Vacation

The husband and I took advantage of the fact that I was going to Paris for school to tack a little bit of our own fun on to the beginning of my trip.

We started by flying into Rome, where it was very, very hot.
St. Peter's Basilica

I was showing too much skin for St. Peter's, so I had to buy this cheesy scarf to cover up

Dinner at Piazza Navona. My makeup had long since slid off my face in the heat (so, yeah, don't ask me why I'm wearing that scarf). It was about 9pm when this picture was taken. Love those late sunsets!

The favorite building in Rome (or anywhere, really)

The Colosseum at sunset

From Rome we flew to Paris to celebrate Bastille Day and meet up with friends.

This French cutie totally reminded me of Etienne St. Clair

Tried to go to the Catacombs, but they were closed

My friends and I loving France on Bastille Day

My friend Melissa moved to Prague last year to teach at an American school, so it was really awesome to meet up with her in Paris for Bastille Day...which was also her birthday!

We watched the fireworks and the Eiffel Tower Sparkle Party from Tuileries Garden
(I realize this is the worst picture ever)

From Paris we took the train to Amsterdam where it was cold and rainy, but really, really amazing.

It sure is pretty there

Lots of canals

Went to Anne Frank's house, which is an amazing experience.
Didn't see Hazel and Augustus.
Couldn't get the husband to make out with me during the movie.

We saw this sign

And I did this

From Amsterdam we took the train to Brussels, which was this hidden gem of awesomeness that we just loved.

So awesome!

We took a 3 hour bike tour around the city, which was just amazing. So much fun!

View of the Autonium from the highest spot in Brussels

Delicious fries with yummy dipping sauces! (The curry ketchup was my favorite)

Everyone is crazy over this little fountain

It was such a fun and crazy 10 days, and it was the perfect way to kick off my time in Europe.

  1. What a fun trip! Went to Europe for the first time two years ago, and saw many of the same wonders. Loved Paris, but my heart belongs to Roma. :)

    1. Agreed! I was surprised by how much I loved Rome!

  2. Oh my gosh. I need to go back to Europe stat! GREAT pictures! You're so photogenic! :)

  3. So freaking amazing. Your pictures are so awesome. What great memories you'll have for a lifetime!

  4. Amazing! How long were you in Brussels? In my limited experience traveling, I have developed a hunch that I prefer chill, big-but-not-CRAZY cities to the sort of top ten ginormous cities (weird because I live in NYC, but I guess that's why we're moving...). So while I really want to see Paris and London some day, I immediately started Googling Brussels after reading this post! (Beer, chocolate, fries, and waffles? THAT sounds like a vacation!)

  5. Great pictures! Love the one of you and your scarves. Tres fashionable! (I don't know French or Italian)

  6. Sounds amazing! Love the pics. I want to make a trip back to Europe at some point soon. I studied abroad in Madrid in college, and got to visit neighboring countries including France, but that was years ago and the last time I've been!

  7. Looks like an amazing trip! And you're studying abroad in Paris! So cool--have a great time!

  8. So many of my favorite places!!!!

Also, my boss's boss went to Paris in July and left on Bastille day. Y'all might have crossed paths! (Unlikely)

  9. Beautiful pics. So glad you were able to fit in some hubby-travel time. It's the best, no?

  10. Wonderful pictures and sounds like you had a great time! :D
Oh Paris, how I miss you! (and yes I've never been to Rome despite the fact that I live in Europe, sad :P)

  11. Uh, I'm pretty sure that we were in Rome at the same time! Crazy! I stayed right around the corner from Piazza Navona and visited it every night. I had an amazing time there and it seems like you did too. :)
