Hey everyone, I'm hoping you can help me out!
I'm trying to get a class set of the book WONDER by R.J. Palacio for us to read together.
I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.
August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. He's about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?
R. J. Palacio has written a spare, warm, uplifting story that will have readers laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next. With wonderfully realistic family interactions (flawed, but loving), lively school scenes, and short chapters, Wonder is accessible to readers of all levels.
I've set up an account with DonorsChoose.org, a fantastic organization that helps teachers fun projects for their classrooms. I've used them before to get new books for my classroom library, and now I'm trying to get a class set of this novel for us to read together.
Now I'm asking for any donations possible for my students - no matter the size, it will help my kids. This week only, any donation you make to my project will be doubled! If you know anyone who is passionate about education or reading, please pass this along. Your tax-deductible donation will have a direct impact on the 250 students I see every day (and many more in the future), and I'll keep you posted on the impact your donation will have on my class.
To learn more or donate:
1. Visit my Teacher Page, http://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/415481
2. Choose THE WONDER OF WONDER, enter the amount of your donation, and click "Give"
3. During check-out, enter the word where it says "Match or gift code", and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar.
The INSPIRE match code will double your donation for the next 7 days. (Through December 22, 2012)
Please feel free to send me any questions you may have, and know that my students and I greatly appreciate your support. I love all of you, and I appreciate any little thing you can do for us!
