Class of 2013: Popularity Contest

Thanks for joining Katy, Alison, Tracey and me over here at the Class of 2013: YA Superlatives Blogfest again for the popularity contest! The linky is at the bottom, so add your link and the then hop around to visit everyone's blog!

Now, on to today's categories, where we can pick characters from any 2013 book! (In case you need a reminder, here is what I read this year.)

Class Clown
Caymen in The Distance Between Us
This girl has the best one-liners and the most hilarious inner monologue. I want to sit next to her in the back of science class and just snark on everyone.

Most Likely to Become a Rock Star
Elise in This Song Will Save Your Life
Elise is destined for greatness. She'll end up one of those super famous DJs who can sell out entire venues.

Mostly Likely to Start a Riot
Gray from Taken
I love Gray because he's the kind of guy who jumps in and gets things DONE. That's why this book was so action-packed...Gray was always starting trouble as he tried to figure out WTF was going on in Claysoot.

Biggest Flirt

Willem in Just One Day / Just One Year
Oh, Willem. So charming, he left a trail of women swooning for him all across the globe. But, seriously...who could resist this guy?

Fashion King and/or Queen
Eleanor & Park from Eleanor & Park
Between his guyliner and Joy Division t-shirts and her thrift store finds that look more like art, these two are my fashion favorites for the year.

Character You’d Most Want For Your BFF*
Roux in Also Known As
I love Roux! I love her so much! I want to hang out with her all day, every day! If you haven't read this book yet, do it for Roux. She's worth it.

Character You Wish You’d Dated in High School
Sai in The Reece Malcom List
It's like Amy Spalding went into Teen Jess's brain to create this boy.

Most Likely to Become President
Gansey in The Dream Thieves
I think I chose him for this last year, too. Blue calls him President Cell Phone when she first meets him! And he's so diplomatic!

Quirkiest Character
Zusana in Night of Cake and Puppets
I wasn't sure if I was going to use this for superlatives because it's not a full-length book, but I loved it so much, and Zusana is so awesome in every day, that I decided my list wouldn't be complete without it and her on there.

Villain You Love to Hate
The doctor in All Our Yesterdays
I love when a villian has a fully developed backstory that makes me really relate to him/her and maybe even feel a little bad. This book really did make me sympathize with the bad guy at points, which isn't easy to do.

Favorite Parental Figure
Kami's dad in Untold
Every character in this series is absolutely hilarious, but Kami's dad wins all the things.

Coolest Nerd
Cath in Fangirl
She writes fanfiction and has Emergency Kanye Dance Patries. Cath is the best.

*So, I know I helped write these categories and all, but as I was filling this out I realized how non-inclusive they were as we had written them. Not everyone is BFFs with a girl and dating a boy, Jess. Get your head out of your butt. So I changed it. Sorry I didn't think about it sooner.

If you participated today, leave the link to your Popularity Contest below...then hop around and see what everyone else picked today! Be sure to come back tomorrow for Elements of Fiction!

  1. Looks like we had three in common here :) Willem is definitely a huge flirt, and I still haven't decided if I like him. I should probably read Just One Year.

    1. Oh, you definitely need to read Just One Year before you make up your mind on Willem!

  2. I can't believe I completely forgot about the Doctor in ALL OUR YESTERDAYS for Villain I Love to Hate. Good call! And even though I haven't yet read UNTOLD, I'm thinking my opinion of Mr. Glass won't change from UNSPOKEN. Such a great book dad!

  3. Good point about the categories, I didn't even think of that. Duh. I really want to read This Song Will Save Your Life.

  4. Good point about the categories, and love that you changed them. I almost want to add a boy I'd be BFF's with and a girl I would have secretly had a girl crush on (maybe not romantically, but definitely wished I could be).

That said, I loved Gansey too much to make him the President because he is the boy I'd have been in love with in high school, but I totally agree that he could also be President. I don't think he'd want to be though.

I still need to read Untold. I loved Unspoken!

    1. Yes! Read Untold! Or wait until the 3rd book comes out so you don't have to go through the agony of another heart-wrenching ending.

  5. I had the same thought about the categories when I was filling this out. We'll have to change that for next year.

Really awesome list. I also loved Roux (and that book, but then again I'll read anything Robin Benway writes). And the doctor! Yes!

Last year I chose Kami's dad for my favorite parent. I haven't read Untold yet (I NEED to because I loved Unspoken) but I hope there's even more Dad this time around.

  6. Ooh, interesting pick for Fashion King/Queen! And Gansey could totally be president. I put Cath as my BFF, but she's also a pretty cool nerd!

  9. Oddly enough, I had the same thought about those categories you asterisked today. We'll have to change them for next year. I can't believe I forgot about Cath for Coolest Nerd. She fits the category perfectly!

  11. Willem was definitely a huge flirt with all his European, artistic, free-spiritness. Now that you've mentioned it, Park really was a Fashion King, wasn't he?!

  12. Grrrr, I'm so mad at myself for not having read Untold yet! This very blogfest last year made me finally pick up Unspoken and I *LOVED* it--so much so that I'm teaching it when we get back from winter break, so clearly I'll be re-reading it and finally getting to Untold. But Kami's dad is PERFECT for that category--duh. Great pick.

  13. I don't know why I always default to Four for president (I think I listed him last year, too) but great call with the evidence for Gansey. Also, the doctor is THE villain to love to hate! The is a great element to the story for sure.

  14. Yes! More books for my TBR list! I've been waiting to read The Reece Malcolm List forever.

  15. I have got to read Eleanor and Park! And I hadn't even heard of Night of Cake and Puppets, but am thrilled to have discovered it, even if it is short. Love Zusana!
